In this instance there are one of two fixes. One is that the graphics card driver has
re-set to default, in which case you simply need to re-install your graphics card. To do
this press F8 as your PC starts up just before the computer prints Starting Windows
95/98 on the screen. You should then be presented by a screen which is titled
Windows 95/98 start up menu, from here select Safe Mode. Once you are in safe
mode click Start, Settings and Control Panel then System. From this you should see
a tab labeled Device Manager click this. From the list you will see a heading for
Display Adapters, click the plus sign next to this, now highlight it and click remove.
Once you have done this Re-start the machine and follow the Graphics Card
installation instructions from the main Tech Help menu.
The other thing that may have happened is that the monitor may not be installed
correctly, to check this right mouse button click once in you Desktop and choose
properties from the menu, you should now be presented with the Display Properties,
click the Settings tab and then select the Display adapter button. This should bring
up another window, this window will have a heading for Monitor click this, now check
that the monitor is correct, if it is not then click change and select your monitor type.
''When I play games my screen just goes blank!''
This problem is normaly caused by old Direct X drivers, in these cases we would
recomend getting updated drivers for your graphics card and possibly monitor, once
you have installed these please remember to re-install Direct X so that it can pick up
the new drivers, it might be an idea to check for a new version of Direct X at the same
time.
''I start up my machine and there is nothing on it!, I just hear
3 beeps.''
This means one of two things, the card may simply not be seated correctly in the slot,
in which case re-seat it and try again. If however this doesn't work it may be that the
card is faulty or damaged.
''I just have horizontal lines up and down the screen!''
This will normally occur if the wrong display drivers have been installed, but it will
also occur if you try to set your monitor refresh rate higher than the monitor of the
graphics card can handle, to sort this problem out you will need to re-start your
machine and enter safe mode as list above, in safe mode simply change it back to
the setting which last worked.
